My Story
With 35 years experience working in food - teaching cookery, nutrition and food hygiene, running restaurants, broadcasting, writing recipes and food articles, carrying out cookery demos at food shows - I'm incredibly passionate about cooking and enabling others to cook. I have a BSc in Food Science, gained at Bath Spa University.
I've been lucky enough to have worked with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Rosemary Shrager, Brian Turner, Aldo Zilli and Cyrus Todiwala - and I've written several cookery books, the latest being The Four Seasons, which was released in 2024. I taught food and nutrition, not only in schools to GCSE and A Level standard, but also in pre schools, community groups and for the National Federation of Women's Institutes - and studied Food History through my work with the National Trust, carrying out cookery demos and pop ups on topics such as the Food of Dickens and Jane Austen Afternoon Teas. I have tutored food sessions in every age range from ante natal groups to Under 5s to Over 70s groups. I worked for Somerfield Magazine, and created recipes for G's Marketing at Ely for their website and veg boxes - and was commissioned by Norfolk and Cambridgeshire Museum Service to research and produce historical recipes cards. It was a privilege to write recipes alongside other authors for National Trust cookery books - and I've worked on many television programmes on the BBC, ITV and Sky, as well as talking live on numerous radio stations about food topics - carrying out regular phone ins on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
Having run restaurants, cooked and managed service for many years, I was responsible for setting up the pop up restaurant in Octavia Hill Birthplace House in Cambridgeshire. It was also a pleasure to produce top class dinners with Brian Turner and Cyrus Todiwala, for over 100 guests - as part of courses I wrote for local schools. More recently it's been an honour to work for The Ferry Project - a registered charity that provides emergency accommodation and longer term help for homeless and vulnerable people in the Fenland area of the UK. The project helps homeless people with accommodation as well as the skills they need to live independently. I was approached to set up and run a Cookery School for the project, with the aim to provide cooking skills, vocational skills and work experience in hospitality to the hostel clients. I have also been successful in creating an intern programme, giving guidance to those clients who want to pursue a career in the hospitality industry - and have demonstrated natural cookery talent.
I have taken our work out in to the Community by creating initiatives that teach people how to cook on a budget and make better food choices - and run ticketed courses and events - all of which are available to book via my Events Page. I'm thrilled that under my guidance, the Cookery School was a Finalist in the Food Hero Category, two years running, at the Velvet Magazine Awards in 2025 and 2026. We won Social Enterprise of the year and the Prestige Award at the Fenland Business Awards, earlier in 2026 - and I'm delighted to be a finalist for the 'She Inspires' Awards, which take place later this year.
