The Ferry Project is a registered charity that provides emergency accommodation and longer term help for homeless and vulnerable people in the Fenland area. The Ferry Project is here to help homeless people with accommodation as well as the skills they need to live independently.
The Ferry Project Cookery School aims to provide cooking skills, vocational skills and work experience in hospitality to the hostel clients.
We are a social enterprise so we also offer private cookery classes, talks and events and work out in the community teaching groups how to cook. This creates a revenue stream to support the training of the hostel clients.
Alison has 35 years of experience working in food. From teaching cookery, nutrition and food hygiene, running restaurants, broadcasting, writing both recipes and food articles, to carrying out cookery demos at food shows Alison is passionate about enabling others to cook. The clients at the hostel enjoy taking part in cookery sessions. From quick fajitas to vegetable packed Shepherds Pie, from homemade bread into pizzas to leftover bread into apple packed puddings......
Nutrition, food hygiene and life skills are all part of the package.
Opportunities for qualifications and work experience are available too.
Linking up with community groups from all backgrounds to share recipes, foodie chats, how to use leftovers, seasonal sensations and to socialise with others over the magic of food.
We can pop up anywhere for talks, tastings and chats!
We have three fabulous venues where you might find us....Octavia Hill Birthplace House running a pop up restaurant, Wisbech And Fenland Museum carrying out talks and tastings and Wisbech General Cemetery running wine tastings, Food and Poetry events or cookery demos. If you would like us to pop up in your venue let us know!
Outdoor cooking is so good for mental wellbeing. We love to pop up in an orchard or allotment and cook with what is growing around us. From Apple Day talks to soup making....
If you would like us to write some recipes and carry out a demo at your farm shop or market, from sausages, cheese to tomatoes....We used to love cooking live on Wisbech Market Place.......
